Bookish Articles

Being an avid reader back in the early days, I would attempt to get my hands on any fantasy reads that my local library would lend me. Back in the day…*cough* I can’t believe I just said that. I didn’t have access to Goodreads or Amazon to know what a book was about. The Internet and money were limited to me when I was younger. All I had was basically reading the inside flap and going in blind. Hoping it would be good and hoping that they will have the next book in the series available in the library. Those were the days. Now looking back, I reminisce on the very titles that I enjoyed when I was younger. Took me to imaginative worlds that I never thought was possible when I was a kid. Now turning 30 this year, I realized that these very books that open my world to reading, I still very much love to escape to still today. These titles I would highly recommend to fellow readers who are looking into classic fantasy reads.

So let’s delve into the books I would say are the best fantasy reads that were published before 2010.

Book cover of Mister Monday

Mister Monday

by Garth Nix: published in 2005

There are seven books and each book focuses on the day of the week. You have our main character Arthur who is struggling with asthma and is an heir of the House. Another world that exists outside of the one he knows.  Arthur must defeat the Morrow Days or the criminal key keepers of each portion of the House. Each Morrow Days are from different days of the week, different keys and also have one deadly sin. Great read for fantasy lovers for middle schoolers and up.
