Supernatural Singles Book 1
Are you a fantasy lover that wants to try your hands into rom coms? Not the Witch You Wed by April Asher is a great option for that. In my opinion, this is a great contemporary rom com that has an urban fantasy element to it.
I will say, this book can be corny and slightly cringey at times. As an intense fantasy reader myself, some things can have you roll your eyes like you did in the days of reading Twilight. But it was still done in a nice rom-comy way.
Second Chance Romances
Phases such as
“Link’s inner wolf…” or “Telling his inner beast to behave.” has been used multiple, no I mean way too many times in this book.
Corny? Certainly. Still good? HECK YES!

Violet is a magicless witch of the triplet witch Maxwell sisters. For unknown reasons, she had no magic and was content to be the eldest with no responsibilities. Because she has no magic, she was passed on the magic counsel as Prima.
Basically, a government for the vampires, shapeshifters, werewolves and witches that rule over the mythical creatures.
Even though she was magicless the council, they still wanted Violet to be Witch Mated. Which is an age-old tradition that bound her magic to a mate. Even though she has no magic, she was still required to follow tradition. In a desperate attempt, she bought her more time and struck a deal with Lincoln. Who is a Wolf Prima Shapeshifter on the counsel and in a similar situation as she is in. Also, the same guy who broke her heart in high school and never saw him again.
Lincoln was in the same predicament as Violet was, needing to be bonded to a mate by his 33 birthday. If he doesn’t choose one, then the counseling will choose one for him. Which didn’t go in line with Lincoln wanting to be bounded with One True Mate.
In public eyes, they started to fake date each other and try to trick the magic counsel that they are on their way to be mated. During their fake dates, they started rekindling the romance that started in High School and started to discover that they could possibly be meant for each other.
Even though this is a cute story, this still had its slight flaws in my opinion. The whole internal monologue of Lincoln’s inner beast threatening to always come out got old after a while. It is explained closer to the end, but it was strange to keep hearing it with no context on what his “inner beast” actually is. Got cringey after hearing (I was listening to audio) over and over again about his inner wolf or inner beast coming out like a scene from the movie Predator.
I know, I know. Not like that. The way the thing was raging to get out when it was interacting with Violet made me wonder if Lincoln should just unleash the best to put us all out of our misery.
The fake dating didn’t actually feel like actual fake dating. Yeah, they fooled a few people, but the relationship moved very fast with them still calling it a “business deal”. The fake dating was more about fooling themselves.
The chemistry was really strong between the couple starting on the first fake date. Which I give prompts to the writer of this book. So, when it was said 75% of the book that they still were unsure of the relationship after sleeping together and sparks flying and what not. I didn’t believe it and it was annoying to read the struggle. I was never so convinced that a couple was meant for each other and was annoyed that there was even a question.
All in all, this isn’t a deep magical system but the rom com is very cute. Not the Witch You Wed is a dabble of fantasy in a rom com that you don’t get to see very often. Nice refreshing take and I am looking forward to reading the other two sisters’ love stories in the near future.
